''... We have been extremely fortunate to hit the jack-pot, as far as motor-bike tours go.''
... we had completed our magical mystery tour safely, made new friends along the way, and had an absolute blast! We cannot sing the praises of Clutch Moto Tours, and especially Rozle Verhovc highly enough.''
This craggily beautiful land retains some lingering scars from the heartbreaking civil war in the 1990s. But today visitors will more likely remember Bosnia and Hercegovina for its deep, unassuming human warmth and for the intriguing East-meets-West atmosphere born of fascinatingly blended Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian histories.
Major drawcards are the reincarnated antique centres of Sarajevo and Mostar, where rebuilt historical buildings counterpoint fashionable bars and wi-fi–equipped cafes. Elsewhere Socialist-era architectural monstrosities are surprisingly rare blots on predominantly rural landscapes. Many Bosnian towns are lovably small, wrapped around medieval castles and surrounded by mountain ridges or cascading river canyons. Few places in Europe offer better motorcycle riding and scenery.Bosnia and Herzegovina is THE country to ride before others do.

Just after we leave the city behind the real riding fun starts. This will be the day of the corners, 250 kilometers of twisty roads with not much traffic. Roads take us through some of the most remote areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the morning we follow 80 kilometers of Bistrica River Canyon before we turn for Sutjeska National Park, Bosnia and Herzegovina's oldest national park. The park is famous as being the location of the Battle of the Sutjeska in 1943 during World War II, where the Partisan were victorious over the German occupying forces. The Partisans were led by the Supreme Headquarters of Yugoslavia by Marshal Josip Broz Tito who foiled the enemy’s plans. The Partisans were successful in breaking out of the encirclement even though they lost one third of their men. Several large Partisan’s Memorial stonemonuments commemorate this event, great place for a short break from riding. We continue riding south and best lamb from the spit in the area is our lunch break. With a short stop in Trebinje at the 16th century Perovic-Arslanagic 's Bridge we reach Dubrovnik, pearl of the Adriatic. Explore the compact and beautifully preserved medieval fortifications of Dubrovnik's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Take in the terracotta-roofed townhouses and centuries-old stone monuments; from the 17th-century Rector's Palace to the Baroque Cathedral. Take a walk of the City Wall for spectacular views of the Old Town or just sit on Stradun, its vibrant main street and enjoy coffee and Dubrovnik’s hospitality. You can take acable car to the hill above Dubrovnik and be amazed by the breathtaking views of the Old City, the crystal clear Adriatic Sea and the numerous islands. Dinner in best fish restaurant.
We follow the scenic coastal road heading to the valley of Neretva River where we turn back inland. Along the coast we ride for 24 kilometers through Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bosnian little piece of Adriatic Coast On the way we stop in Mali Ston. a well kept secret – a wall hundreds of years old which is the longest complete fortress system around a town in Europe –and the second in the world. Yet very few seem to have heard of the Walls of Ston. After we enter Bosnia again we continue riding before we reach Mostar, another UNESCO Word Heritage Site on our tour. Mostar has been most famous for this beautiful historic Ottoman-style bridge, which spanned the Neretva River, and in what is considered the historic centre of the city. The city was the most heavily bombed of any Bosnian city during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1992-1995 following the breakup of then-Yugoslavia. At the beginning of the war, the city lost many important buildings and the Old Bridge was one of them. It has been rebuilt using some of its original pieces recovered from the Neretva River. A significant portion of the city has been rebuilt and visitors might be suprised to see that this formerly war-torn city is a lively and beautiful destination once again.
Following the Neretva River north to Jablanica you will ride one of the most scenic roads in Bosnia and Hercegovina. The Neretva River carves its way through the centre, dividing the massive mountain ranges. It was at Jablanica that Tito and the partisans, burdened with 4,000 wounded others, won the unlikely Battle of the Neretva during World War II. The blown-up bridge that the partisans used to trick the Nazis still hangs from the high cliffs as a reminder of one of the partisans' greatest victories. Apart from this famous World War II battle, Jablanica is known for its 'jagnjetinja', lamb meat. The old tradition of roasting sheep over an open fire brought fame to a series of restaurants on the main road south of the town. The great riding will not end until the evening, riding through Rama river valley to Prozor and further on via Kupres and Donji Vakuf to Jajce, another important town from the Yugoslavia times. Jajce bills itself as Bosnia's 'Open Air Museum'. Above an impressive urban waterfall, Jajce's fortified Old Town climbs a steep rocky knoll to the powerful, ruined castle where Bosnia's medieval kings were once crowned. In 1943 it hosted the second convention of the Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ). There, representatives from throughout Yugoslavia decided to establish a federal Yugoslavia in equality of its nations, and established that Bosnia and Herzegovina would be one of its constitutive Republics. From here we have two more hours to our hotel on the peaceful mountain plain with great twisty road leading there.
